Morning,
Well we didn't get much sleep in our house last night as my poor little guys are suffering with toothache. They are only 11 months old but already have 7 teeth each. The first 6 they took in their stride but now the back ones are coming it's making them really sad :-(
I knew when we found out that we were having identical twins that the boys would reach milestones together, but it never occurred to me that they'd do practically everything together. The boys are starting to look different now but they usually wake up at the same time, fill their nappies at the same time and have had exactly the same teeth at the same time. So when one wakes with illness/toothache the other is not usually far behind, and this is what can be difficult with raising twins. Sleep deprivation has to be one of the worst parts of being a parent, especially a parent of multiples. When one baby wakes up sad and you manage, after a little time, to comfort him there's a sigh of relief as you sneak out of the bedroom, only for the other to wake. Or if yours are anything like my boys, they very kindly wait until you slip back into bed until they cry.
Surprisingly for me the lack of sleep hasn't made me feel as bad as I was expecting. The boys aren't ones to make a fuss so I know that when they cry it's because somethings wrong. Also from the start I've always tried to tell myself that the boys only cry because that is their only way to communicate, and that's really helped me, along with their gorgeous smiles they give me when they finally settle.
My best advice is sleep whenever you can, also try not to feel like you've failed if your little one ends up in bed with you (you do need to be extra careful with their safety in this situation though) once in a while. It's not ideal, and a lot of people frown on it but it will gradually stop, after all how many 15 year olds do you know still sleep with the parents..........................I recon not many ;-)
